5 Simple Tips To Declutter Your Life This Spring

Spring is the perfect time to declutter your life. From your garage to your bedroom, here’s some simple ways to declutter and make your home more liveable, comfortable and functional.

1 STREAMLINE YOUR WARDROBE

If you haven’t worn your clothes in 12-18 months, it’s unlikely that you’ll be wearing them in the future. Unless you have a special piece of apparel that you’re keeping for sentimental reasons or a high-end event, think about donating items that are not in regular rotation.

Once you’ve finished streamlining your clothes, organise your apparel to suit your lifestyle. Make sure the clothes wear regularly are more accessible — and the clothes that aren’t in season (or are only for special occasions) and safely stored in another section of your wardrobe. An organised wardrobe is always in fashion, so check out decluttering methods from experts like Marie Kondo and spring clean your wardrobe!

2 CREATE A SPACE FOR SHOES

Are your shoes thrown in the bottom of your cupboard in a big jumble? Or are they left in different storage spaces around the house? Keeping your shoes tidy and organised is one of the simplest decluttering tasks. Collect all the shoes that you will continue to wear and then arrange them by style or season in a designated shelving space. Whether you’re keen to create a discrete shoe cabinet or a spectacular shoe shelf to show off your collection, you’ll find getting dressed easier and quicker with an organised shoe storage solution.

3 DECLUTTER YOUR GARAGE

Your garage should be a clean and accessible space to house your vehicles, bicycles, tools, outdoor items and more. It shouldn’t just be a dumping ground for all those things that you don’t have a specific home for. Turning your garage into a useable and functional space requires a little elbow grease and a cut-throat approach to decluttering. Don’t hoard broken tools, unused clothing or out-of-date furniture if you’re not going to repurpose them in the near future.

Do a thorough clean out of your garage, and then start thinking about ways to create more space with specific storage solutions. Consider what you want out of your garage: do you require separate zones for tools, pet products or gym equipment? Do you want to be able to see your gear or would you like it neatly tucked away behind cupboard doors? Customised cabinetry that suits the needs of your lifestyle can transform your garage into a smarter storage space.

4 OFFICE ORGANISATION

With the current trend of people working from home, it’s a good idea to think about how your home office can be a more welcoming and efficient area. Whether you have a small desk in a communal living area or you have one room designated as your home office, paperwork, stationery and technology can quickly pile up in your workspace. Maximise the room you have available with storage solutions including shelving, cupboards, built in desks, under desk storage and overhead bookshelves. It will not only look much more appealing when you’re on your next Zoom call, it will also make your work-from-home life a little less stressful.

5 LOOK AT YOUR LAUNDRY

Oh, the poor forgotten laundry. Unless you live in a contemporary property that already boasts a cleverly designed laundry, you could be putting up with room that just work with our modern lives.

Unfortunately, a laundry sink with a small cupboard underneath doesn’t exactly lighten your laundry workload. So to create a better space, think about your laundry in terms of storage requirements and zoned activities. Would you like a cupboard for your ironing and ironing board? Do you need extra shelving for laundry liquids and stain removers? Are you always trying to find a piece of clothing in that dirty clothes pile? Even a modest laundry can become more functional with some simple storage additions.
